Seraphine Cautire
Seraphine was a socialite and opera alto, and excelled at both. She could have spectators on the edge of their seats, and have foreign ministers eating out of her hand; she could have been a diplomat if the stage didn't suit her so well. Anselm was drawn to her, and she fell for him for the same reason Teresa and others did - he was direct, competent and dedicated. When Vivienne was born, Seraphine agreed with Anselm that scandal must be avoided, and steps were taken. She was acquainted with Teresa, but they were not close, or even friendly. Seraphine's death by arson would motivate her daughter, and seed hope for a renewed relationship between sisters.
